# Theming

> Switch between Light/Dark and multi-brand identities

The **Theme collection** is where each brand’s visual identity lives. Colors, typography, radius, borders, and shadows are all controlled here. By separating *Theme* from *Mode*, the Brandbook ensures you can switch between **Light/Dark** without ever losing your brand palettes.

## How Theming Works

### Colors

* Organized into *Light* and *Dark* groups.
* Each group includes:
  * **Base** → Neutrals, Accent, Card
  * **Shadow** → Shadow color variables in multiple intensities

### Typography

* Numeric variables for font-family and font-weight live in Theme.
* These connect directly to text styles (which flow into components).

### Radius & Border Width

* Numeric variables defining corner radii and border thickness.
* Used across components to keep visuals consistent.

### Shadows

* Numeric variables define shadow offsets (x, y, blur, spread).
* Mapped into shadow effects: 2xs, xs, sm, md, lg, xl.
* Combined with shadow colors for complete effects.

### Modes

* Theme has two main modes:
  * **Client** → the client’s brand system
  * **Your Brand** → your own studio or project system
* This allows you to swap instantly between brands without touching components.

## Editing Themes

1. **Open the Theme collection** in Figma Variables panel.
2. Choose which brand you want to edit (Client / Your Brand).
3. **Adjust values** for colors, typography, radius, borders, and shadows.
4. Changes apply everywhere the Theme is connected — from components to entire pages.

## Multi-Brand Workflow

* **One-click switching** → Instantly toggle between Client and Your Brand.
* **Consistency preserved** → Light/Dark palettes remain intact for each brand.

## Best Practices

* **Edit at Theme level, not in components.** Components should always pull from Theme variables.
* **Keep Light/Dark pairs consistent.** Always define both versions of each color to ensure smooth switching.
* **Leverage radius and shadow variables.** Don’t apply raw values directly — use Theme variables to maintain scalability.
* **Use Client vs Your Brand properly.** Don’t overwrite one with the other — keep them distinct for multi-brand workflows.
