# Typography

> A three-layer system for flexible social media type

Typography in the Social Media System is built on a **three-layer system**: variables, text styles, and components. This ensures maximum flexibility and consistency across all social media formats — from carousels to single posts.

## 1. Variables

At the foundation, typography is controlled by variables inside two collections:

* **Theme** → Font-family and font-weight.
* **Spacing** → Font-size, with four modes corresponding to standard social media formats (e.g. Instagram Post, Instagram Story, LinkedIn Post, Facebook Cover).

This structure ensures that typography automatically adapts to the selected format.

### Important

When editing variables:

* The **font-family name must match exactly** the font name in the Figma panel.
* The **font-weight must match exactly** the registered weight (e.g. *Medium*, *Regular*, *Bold*).

If names don’t match, connections will break and the system won’t find the correct font.

## 2. Text Styles

Variables are connected to **Text Styles** in Figma. These styles act as the middle layer between raw variables and components.

* **Headings** → Display XL → Headline SM.
* **Body text** → Body LG, Body SM.

Because styles are powered by variables, changing a variable (family, weight, or size) updates every style instantly — and automatically scales depending on the selected format mode.

## 3. Components

Two **master components** control all typography in the Social Media System:

* **Heading component** → Contains every heading style (Display → Headline SM).
* **Body component** → Contains every body size (Large, Small).

Unlike the Brandbook, there is no “Heading Group” or “Text Block” component here. Typography is kept lean and format-driven, optimized for social media use.

## Flexibility & Versatility

* Update font-family once in **Theme variables**, and every heading and body adapts.
* Adjust font-size via **Spacing modes**, and posts adapt automatically to platform formats.
* Switch between Studio and Client branding instantly, keeping typography consistent across proposals and final deliverables.
* Scale typography seamlessly across different formats (IG, LinkedIn, Facebook) without rebuilding components.

## Best Practices

* **Always edit via variables**, not directly in components or styles.
* **Match font names exactly** to avoid broken connections.
* **Switch format modes** in Spacing Social Media to preview how typography adapts to different platforms.
* **Keep consistency**: never create ad-hoc text styles; always use the defined system.
